What are Dedicated Servers?

When we talk about hosting servers, there are three main sorts - web hosting servers, VPS (Virtual Private Servers) and dedicated web hosting. Shared hosting web servers host multiple clients and therefore the system resources per web hosting account are limited, VPS web hosting offer more configuration independence, but also affect other virtual private web hosting servers on the hardware node if used heedlessly, and dedicated servers give you the possibility to perform everything you want without messing with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are normally much more expensive than shared servers or VPS servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The answer is pretty simple. If your firm has a heavy resource-consuming web page, or just has very precise server configuration requirements, the proper option is a dedicated servers. For someone who is prepared to invest in security and reliability, the bigger price is of no importance. You receive full root-level access and can use 100% of the dedicated hosting web server's system resources without anyone else using these system resources and intervening with your web sites.

Hardware configurations

Most hosting providers, incl. us at Connektiva Web Hosting, offer several different hardware architectures you can choose from in consonance with your requirements. The hardware architectures include different varieties of microprocessors, a different number of cores, different RAM memory and hard drive sizes and different web traffic usage quotas. You can pick a web hosting Control Panel, which is a useful graphical user interface if you wish to use the dedicated servers for hosting purposes solely and prefer not to resort to SSH for all the modifications you will be making. We provide 3 types of web hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-confident Linux OS user (our dedicated hosting web servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated web hosting via SSH only. That, though, could be awkward, particularly if you wish to give full root-level access to somebody else who has less technical experience than yourself. That is why having web hosting CP software installed is a brilliant idea. The Hepsia Control Panel GUI that we provide does not offer root privileges and is mostly appropriate for someone who owns many web portals that require plenty of system resources, but prefers to manage the web sites, databases and e-mail boxes through an easy-to-use web hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, give you complete root access and offer 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting packages rather than using the dedicated servers only for yourself, you should choose one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a problem with your dedicated hosting server, such as a non-responsive Apache or a network outage, it is good to have some sort of monitoring system activated. Here at Connektiva Web Hosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated servers as well. Backups are also an extra feature - the web hosting services provider offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could choose a kind of RAID that would permit you to save the same data on two hard drives as a protective measure in the event of a server hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted complete root access deletes something by mistake.
